Algonquin Arts was founded in 1991 to provide cultural enrichment for the residents and visitors of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Lesley Gore literally burst onto the music scene in 1963 when her first single, "It's My Party," skyrocketed to a number one hit. With more than two dozen chart hits to her credit, this singing sensation of the '60s now brings her memorable pop and new hits to fans of all ages. "You Don't Own Me," "Judy's Turn to Cry," and many more make this a "party" not to be

Saturday, August 19 at 8pm: The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancer's and David Leonhardt Jazz Group
"...stupendously performed action-paced footwork...," says The New York Times. Shelley Oliver, finalist from Star Search, who has performed with such greats as Savion Glover and Gregory Hines, leads this dancing ensemble. Known for dynamic improvisation, synchronized dancing and stunning solo work, they tap and jam accompanied by pianist David Leonhardt's..heralded jazz group.
Saturday, August 23 at 8pm: Martha Reeves and the Vandellas
Martha Reeves, the ultimate Soul Diva, and the Vandellas will have the audiences thumping to the beat in this singing and dancing performance of great Motown hits. Indeed, it was Martha's hit "Come and Get the Memories" that inspired the coining of the term Motown. After a five-decade career, Martha still delivers, with fiery energy, her enviable string of hits like "Heat Wave," "Nowhere to Run," "I'm Ready for Love," and the Motown anthem, "Dancing in the Street."

This 361-seat, thirty-year-old theater is home to everything from dramas and concerts to musical theater. Although the shows are performed mainly during the school year, they also have Summer Shakespeare in July. Show times vary but are typically on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Ticket prices vary as well and can run from $12. to $24.

One of the most distinctive and majestic landmarks along the New Jersey Shore, Asbury Park’s Convention Hall and Paramount Theatre is a multi-purpose venue of two separate buildings joined by a Grand Arcade. Convention Hall, located on the boardwalk and extending out over the beach, has a capacity of up to 3,600, depending upon the event. It features an impressive stage area and a spacious arena floor. The historic Paramount Theatre, which opened in 1930, is a showcase for music and performing arts. Founded in 1926, this 1,400-seat theater is known for first class entertainment in an intimate setting. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has played a schedule here for many decades. Famous musical artists such as Bon Jovi, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Bruce Springsteen, and the Brian Setzer Orchestra among others frequently perform at the venue in what are usually sold-out performances. This classic comedy opens as a group of the guys assembled for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just been separated from his wife. Since he is very fastidious and none too tense, they fear he might commit suicide and go about locking all the windows. When Felix arrives, he is scarcely allowed to go to the bathroom alone. As the action unfolds, the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. Considered to be the oldest community theater in the area, The Monmouth Players were formed in 1953. This local community theater produces family friendly comedies and mysteries for three runs a year in February, April, and October. Its fourth run in December is billed as “Not Necessarily The Players” because it gives the actors a chance to expand by putting on some more controversial plays such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Since 1978, the Theatre has been the home of the Spring Lake Theatre Company. Renovated in 1986, the theater seats over 350 patrons. The Surflight Theatre produces large-scale musicals and plays from Memorial Day through mid-October and a holiday show in December. One of the newest additions to Monmouth County theaters is the new Two River Theatre, which opened in Red Bank in the fall of 2005. This is a state-of-the-art performance space. The main theater seats 350 people and is home to the main stage season. Centered around a thrust stage, the furthest seats are no more than thirty-six feet from the performers. The new facility also includes the 99-seat Marion Huber Theater, a black box theater that is host to more experimental works, readings, classes, and rehearsals.

Shellfish, Fish, And A Healthy Bay
Presentation by ReClam the Bay. Open to adults and children. Learn how baby clams are raised first in land-based nurseries and then in water-based upwellers. When small clams are large enough, they are seeded in clam beds in the bay and protected from predators. Learn how poor water quality can affect the health of the creatures in the bay and what each of us can do to protect the bay’s ecosystem. Then seine the bay using hand nets and experience the creatures up close. Donation: $5. per person.
