"Down Barnegat Bay Symposium" at the Point Pleasant

Jersey Shore history will be featured at the "Down Barnegat
Bay Symposium." Hosted by author Robert Jahn, the symposium
includes slides, video, and special displays as well as a
first-time-ever exhibit of several regional oil paintings by
noted artist Gerard R. Hardenbergh from the private collection of
Tom Van Nostrand. Antique duck and shorebird decoys and nautical
artifacts are also featured, including Captain John Lott
Dorsett's 1880 "Historical Cabinet Made from Pieces of 26
Shipwrecks" courtesy of F. Coleman Brice, on loan to Point
Pleasant Historical Society. Folk-singer Valerie Vaughn will
perform her original songs of the Jersey Shore. Mr. Jahn will
present a slide-show based on his illustrated maritime history
"Down Barnegat Bay: A Nor'easter Midnight Reader,"
which recently went into its fifth edition published by Plexus
Publishing, Inc. Authors invited to participate in a Jersey Shore
Book Festival include Frank Finale, "To The Shore Once More,
Volumes I & II" and "A Gull's Story"; Anne
Benedict, "Mantoloking"; Patricia Burke, "Barnegat
Bay Decoys and Gunning Clubs"; Robert Bennett, "The
Surfpounders" and "Surfboats, Rockets &
Carronades"; Gene Donatiello, "Brick Township";
Ferd Klebold, "Fish Pounds from Bay Head to Seaside'; and
Jerry Woolley, "Point Pleasant". Regional cultural,
environmental, and historical groups have been invited to
participate. The symposium marks a return of Mr. Jahn's
"Travelling Through Time" cultural multimedia series at
Ocean County Library. "Times have changed and we're getting
together again to remember our regional heritage," he said.
The program is free and open to all. Advance registration is
