Jersey Shore history was discussed at the "Down Barnegat
Bay: Sesquicentennial Symposium" at Point Pleasant Branch of
Ocean County Library, 834 Beaver Dam Road, (732) 295-1555.

Author Robert Jahn presented a slide show and signed copies of
his new 248 page hardbound edition of "Down Barnegat Bay: A
Nor'easter Midnight Reader," recently released by Plexus
Publishing.
Several other regional authors were present to sign copies of
their recent books, including: Mary Ware Birkhead,
"Manasquan, Vol. II;" Howard P. Boyd, "A Field
Guide to the Pine Barrens of New Jersey;" Patricia Burke,
"Barnegat Bay Decoys;" Gene Donatiello, "Brick
Township;" Frank Finale, "To The Shore Once More;"
Pauline S. Miller, "Ocean County: Four Centuries in the
Making;" Robert Peterson, "Patriots, Pirates and
Pineys;" and Jerry Woolley, "Point Pleasant, Vol.
III."
Ocean County's Sesquicentennial celebration was featured in a
panel discussion with representatives from regional cultural,
historical and environmental organizations. Efforts to restore
Island Beach State Park's 1899 U.S. Life Saving Station No. 14
were explored by Park Superintendent William C. Vibbert and
Supervisor of State Historical Sites Paul Taylor.
Captain John Lott Dorsett's 1880 "Historical Cabinet Made
from Pieces of 26 Shipwrecks" was exhibited, along with
nautical artifacts from private collections and antiquarian
Jersey Coast maps donated by the late Arthur Johnson.
"We're getting together to honor the Jersey Shore's maritime
heritage and pay tribute to Ocean County's 150th
anniversary," said the host, Robert Jahn.
The symposium, part of the continuing "Travelling Through
Time" cultural series produced by Robert Jahn at the
library, was free and open to all.
"This special program is a highlight of the "Time"
series and the ongoing 75th anniversary of Ocean County
Library," said Barbara Kaden, Head Librarian. "Advance
registration was requested to reserve a seat," she added.
